Five on NEIC’s dream teams

Lead Summary

After a season in which New Hampton volleyball was the talk of the town and advanced to the state tournament for the first time in 45 years, five Chickasaws were selected to the Northeast Iowa Conference honor teams.
Two of them were named to the first team — Lauren Frerichs and Rachel Rinken — while Natalie Hoey and Maddi Moorman were second team selections and Ashlynn Tank was an honorable mention pick.
Frerichs had the best kill efficiency of any of the starters at .356, but she was also the leader in assists, and not only for the 2018 Chickasaws. Among records dating back to the late 90s, Frerichs is at the top of the chart in number of assists in a season, and by a long shot. Her 929 assists this year beats the 721 by Karly Fitzgerald in 2015.
“Lauren has been a three-year starter for the Chickasaws and led the team throughout all three seasons,” said coach Jess Geerts.
More on each of the players may be found in the Nov. 16 Tribune.
