Nice swan song

Lead Summary

Lauren Frerichs didn’t hesitate at all when asked what she liked more — making a good pass or hitting a big shot?
“Pass, without a doubt,” the New Hampton senior said after playing her final home basketball game Saturday night. “That’s kind of what we do as a team. We take a lot of pride in getting the ball to open girls.”
The Chickasaws certainly did that as they pulled away from Waterloo Columbus in the second half to score a 71-47 victory in the first round of the Class 3A regional tournament.
New Hampton improved to 11-8 and earned a third shot at seventh-ranked Crestwood as the two Northeast Iowa Conference rivals will meet Wednesday night in a regional semifinal game at Cresco.
Getting to that semifinal, though, took a little work as Waterloo Columbus didn’t play anything like a 2-18 team.
