Playoff victory

Lead Summary

Even though Turkey Valley’s win over West Central in the regional first round was over for about 20 minutes, Katlyn Baumler’s face  still showed a flush from the hard workout.
The final wasn’t that close — 73-45 — but both teams played a hotly contested game Saturday night as Turkey Valley was scoring their third win over the Blue Devils this season.
“West Central’s No. 13 wasn’t there the last time we played them,” said Baumler, “she played hard. This was good conditioning for us.” The player Baumler referred to was the team’s leading scorer and rebounder, Bryleigh Rouse.
During a regular season game and with that much of a lead, coach Carla Nymeyer may have benched the starters in the fourth quarter, but this is the postseason. And with the weather woes scrapping some games, they needed that time on the court.
“In the postseason, all the teams are 0-0 and anything can happen,” Baumler said.
Turkey Valley scored the most points of their season, but the Blue Devils also had one of the highest scores of their campaign. Admittedly not a great campaign with their 1-17 season, but they showed stretches of promise.
