Pretty good balancing act

It may sound a bit strange but Nashua-Plainfield boys basketball coach Sam Brown found plenty to like in both his team’s games last week.
Obviously, there were plenty of positives in the Huskies’ 30-point win over Northwood-Kensett on Friday, but Brown also had reason to be upbeat about the Huskies’ season opener, which ended up as a 32-point loss to Rockford.
“With Rockford, you have to know you’re going into a battle,” Brown said. “We always talk about playing hard and giving our best effort.  I think we definitely did that throughout the game.  We had six guys that played a lot of minutes and they all came off the floor drenched.  When I see that as a coach, you can’t be upset.”
And for the game’s first 12 minutes, Nashua-Plainfield gave the Warriors, who some consider a contender in the Top of Iowa Conference East Division, all they could handle.
The Huskies trailed just 25-21 after a quarter of play and were within five at 35-30 midway through the second quarter before Rockford closed the half with a 14-5 run.
