Seniors claim wins in final prep matches at state tournament

Two New Hampton/Turkey Valley seniors capped their prep wrestling careers with victories Saturday in their final matches at the state wrestling tournament where four area wrestlers reached the medal stand.
The Chickasaws’ Mason Cleveland turned back Kayden Kauzlarich of Centerville 18-13 to claim the Class 2A 126-pound fifth-place match while his classmate, Max Babccck, stormed out to a 5-0 lead and held off West Delaware’s Cael Meyer for a 7-4 win to claim the 145-pound seventh-place match.
New Hamtpon/Turkey Valley’s other medalist was Evan Rosonke, who followed up his eighth-place finish at 182 with a sixth-place finish at the same weight this year.
In Class 1A, Jakob Whitinger of Nashua-Plainfield repeated his fourth-place finish of a year ago at 113 pounds.
