Top-notch competition

There isn’t a loss between the two teams New Hampton played over the weekend as the Chickasaws lost to seventh-ranked Waukon on Friday and Jesup Saturday, a team that went to 4-0 with its win over the NH girls in the UIU Holiday Showdown at the Upper Iowa campus.
In both games, the NH girls had to try and make up a deficit of 14 points at the free throw line.
“That was the difference in both games,” said coach Chad Pemble. “We’ve got to figure out how not to let teams get to the line. I like how our kids play, they’re gritty, play hard and they’re mentally strong, we have to translate that into scoring more points and keeping people off the foul line.”
Waukon, a team that Pemble saw as a conference favorite in the pre-season, was 14-for-19 at the line, whereas New Hampton was 0-for-0.
“We lost by nine points, it doesn’t take much to do the math there. Same with Jesup, they made 16 points at the line, we made two.” The Chickasaws lost that game 38-29.
Friday the Indians jumped out to a quick lead, 15-5 with three minutes left in the first quarter.
