Trojans split with North Fayette Valley

Lead Summary

Take the Turkey Valley girls basketball game against North Fayette Valley, reverse it, and you have the Trojan boys game against the TigerHawks.
The Lady Trojans jumped out to a big lead in their conference opener, but the visitors clawed their way back, Turkey Valley escaped with a win, but it wasn’t easy.
The same thing happened in the boys game, except it was the Trojan team that trailed early, fought back but was unable to win.
The girls were up 21-8 after a quarter. It may have helped that the TV girls played the night before at New Hampton, while it was the first game for the TigerHawks.
“Overall, I think we were more relaxed having that one game in,” said coach Carla Nymeyer. “But NFV is always scrappy, we knew they’d be intense and give a good, physical effort. And they have bigger girls, but it helped that we got on them right away.”
But in the third quarter, the coach saw the Trojan lead — which was 19 points at the half — evaporate.
