Trojans win UIC tilt, fall at UIU Holiday Showdown

Lead Summary

Turkey Valleys’ offense clicked very nicely — inside and outside — as the Lady Trojans were picking up their second conference win of the season, 57-15 over West Central Friday.
But the next day at the Upper Iowa Holiday Showdown a more experienced, and bigger Wapsie Valley team put the Trojan season record at 2-2 as the Warriors won 57-51.
West Central didn’t score in the opening four minutes of the first quarter Friday, and by the end of the stanza Turkey Valley owned an 18-4 lead, which they stretched to 38-9 by the half.
“Another intense effort from our girls,” said coach Carla Nymeyer. “We built an early lead and kept a steady run to give all players some court time.”
Junior starter Katlyn Baumler led the team with a career-high 15 points, adding a double-double with 11 rebounds while blocking two shots.
More on the games may be found in the Dec. 4 Tribune.
